Chaplains (individual)
On this page are memorials (and sometimes pictures from Memorial Services/Ceremonies) for individual named chaplains. Obviously, this page will never be complete, but will especially include memorials for the more well-known chaplains as well as others as they become known to us. Chaplain Corby (NY Irish Brigade), Gettysburg National Military Park

From the back: “These monuments erected on the Gettysburg Battlefield portray one of the most human interest stories of this famous battle. The Irish Brigade composed principally of New Yorkers were ordered into the battle. Father Corby asked permission to talk to the men for a few minutes. It was granted and he delivered a momentous talk before pronouncing an absolution for all his men. Immediately thereafter they were commanded to go into the fight and displayed remarkable service and fortitude” (TCK archives).

Chaplain Colby of the Irish Brigade was later honored with a memorial statue at Gettysburg. (Author’s collection)
